Frida Baranek has roots all over the world. She is Brazilian born, but her Jewish parents narrowly escaped from Poland and the Holocaust (sadly her grandmother didn’t). She married a Brit (New York Times columnist Roger Cohen), and they settled in Brooklyn, New York. As she says, “I think I have a nomadic spirit, a lot of curiosity,” which can be seen in her work of mixed materials that include everything from hand-made paper and iron plate to sisal and fragments of airplanes. Her work has been exhibited all over the world, including at the Venice Biennale.
