ANNE KELLER
SILVER BELL 2008 MF
Gallery Artist

Some know Anne Keller for her pizza—she is co-owner of the Hot Tomato Café in Fruita, Colorado—and now many will know this woman for her photographs. With sensitivity and humor, Anne—who has shot for Bike and Sunset magazines, among others—has done something astonishing. She spent the last nine months closely chronicling the rehabilitation of a world-class athlete, downhill bike racer Tara Llanes, after a bike crash paralyzed the competitor from the waist down. As Anne says, “Shooting this project was an emotional and often very trying journey into a place where the nature of capturing a photograph felt both extremely intimate and occasionally invasive. But there was also a lot of fun. Tara once made this statement that she is the same person she was before, just a little shorter.” Both the photographer and subject will speak about the laughs—and tears—on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Sheridan Opera House.
