No documentary filmmaker is on a bigger roll than Alex Gibney. His 2005 film, Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room was nominated for an Academy Award. Taxi to the Dark Side, his next feature, deservedly won the Oscar this year. Taxi’s story begins in Afghanistan with the death of a taxi driver named Dilawar. As Alex says, the film is “a murder mystery, a whodunit, and the answer to this mystery takes you right to the highest office in the land.” I’m thrilled to have Alex at Mountainfilm because I worked with him and Eugene Jarecki on their film The Trials of Henry Kissinger. What I saw in Alex—and what you’ll see in Taxi—is his deeply felt need to tell stories that can shine a light into the dark corners of this country. His latest film, Gonzo, is also at Mountainfilm.
