Why He Skied
Per Saari
In 2001, ski-mountaineer Hans Saari fell to his death while attempting to repeat Pierre Tardinel’s legendary ski down Mont Blanc du Tacul in the French Alps. A year after the accident, Saari’s younger brother, Per, sets out to interview Hans’s friends and family in an effort to explain what happened. Per’s investigation takes him from his brother’s birthplace on a Macaw Indian Reservation, across the United States and eventually to France, where he hopes to climb the mountain where Hans’s life ended. Each stop on Per's journey brings him one step closer to understanding why his brother skied.
