Slow By Slow
Sarah Klein
In 1994, over 100,000 Tutsi coffee farmers were killed in the Rwandan genocide, devastating the country’s primary industry. This short video, currently being developed into a feature, is the story of PEARL (Partnerships to Enhance Agriculture in Rwanda), the organization created in the wake of the genocide to help jump-start the Rwandan economy. PEARL works with both Hutu and Tutsi coffee growers to form cooperatives and make specialty coffee for Western markets. As the farmers deal with the collective demons of their pasts, they must work together to create a new future for Rwanda.
