In 2007 Mountainfilm committed to reducing our carbon footprint by powering our festival with bio-diesel-generated electricity. This decreased our impact by 78%. In 2008 we committed to a 100% decrease through the power of WATER.
Now it’s your turn!
Through our new initiative called the Village Green we are asking YOU to make a commitment – a Mountainfilm Commitment – to reduce your carbon footprint.
Click here to make your commitment today.
Maybe your Commitment is something simple and small—like reusing every plastic bag or turning off the water while you brush your teeth -- or hopefully its more challenging—like not using plastic bags at all or giving up bottled water.
Beyond the stuff my family is already doing, I commit to not using plastic water/beverage bottles anymore; to turn off computers when not at desks; to use online bill pay; to set up and receive all possible paperless statements; to take the gondola to and from work as often as possible; and to buy organic and local more often than not. - Mike Shimkonis, Mountainfilm Board Member, via mountainfilm.org/villagegreen
I commit to continue re-using all plastic bags, to be more careful selecting items in my kitchen to be recycled, to take shorter showers, to take not so hot showers, and use cold water when doing laundry. I commit to unplug most appliances around the house when not in use. I commit to drive less times to the grocery stores. I also commit to continue being a vegetarian (#1 cause of reforestation in the Amazon Forest is cattle ranching to feed humanity who eat meat). Thanks for this beautiful initiative! See you in Telluride during Memorial Day. Bianca Schmaltz (Littleton, CO) - via mountainfilm.org/villagegreen
Thanks for inviting us to tell you about our green initiatives at Telluride Properties. We have a new contract with Bruin Waste management for recycling Paper, cardboard,Plastic, and aluminum in all of our offices. We have installed nearly 50 compact floresent bulbs in our offices. Our Signature marketing magazine which is called "Truly Telluride" is printed this year for the first time on FSC Rain Forest certified recycled paper. I also commute to work on my scooter all summer which gets over 100 mpg. Thanks for inspiring us to do better. - Albert Roer via mountainfilm.org/villagegreen
We commit to continue to provide education to all ages in the myriad of ways we can all reduce our ecological footprint. We commit to spreading the word on all our programs relating to energy efficiency and local renewables, green building, resource recovery and recycling, food security and local food issues and how to work towards building resilient communities. - The New Community Coalition
I pledge to use my shiny new metal water bottle at the gym every day, and not use any more plastic water bottles. - Sascha Paladino, Director, Throw Down Your Heart - Official Selection of Mountainfilm, 2008
